Overview
Gangotri, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is one of the four holy shrines of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. Situated at an altitude of 3,100 meters (10,200 ft) in the Uttarkashi district, Gangotri is believed to be the place where River Ganga descended from heaven after Lord Shiva released her from his matted locks.
Set amidst snow-clad peaks, pine forests, and the sacred Bhagirathi River, Gangotri is not only a spiritual pilgrimage but also a serene Himalayan journey. Pilgrims visit the Gangotri Temple and nearby sacred sites that trace the origin of the Ganges.
